John B. Good Japanese Garden (Public Demonstration)
Posted on March 23, 2015
The John B. Good Japanese Garden was built on a 7-acre parcel that was donated by the project’s namesake, the late philanthropist, and gardening enthusiast, John B. Good. The demonstration is available for access by the public seven days a week, 365 days a year, from 7 AM to 7 PM. It’s located at 5010 NW Cornell Drive in Portland, near the Pittock Bird Sanctuary. The photos show some of the garden’s most unique and arresting features.
- The koi pond serves as home for over 60 individual koi fish, as well as a large population of frogs that sit atop the lily pads on a sunny day.
- Dense plantings of maple, bonsai, and other Japanese plant species provide intense shows of color throughout the 11-acre garden.
- A breathtakingly beautiful Japanese maple greets visitors of the garden, as they stroll across an enchanting red wood bridge over a babbling brook.
- Zen stepping stones gently curve across stark-white sand, providing a separation between two lusciously planted quadrants of the John B. Good Japanese Garden.
- A stone pagoda and large boulders flank the peaceful koi pond in the southwest corner of the garden.
